French scuba diver Pascal Bernabé has never ceased to push back the limits of ultra-deep exploration. In 2005, he decided to take on a massive challenge: to go beyond 300 meters under water, a depth never before reach by scuba diving.
In 1996, still unknown to the public, Pascal Bernabé accepts to dive 176 meters deep to bring back two robots trapped in a cave. Following this feat, he joined the closed circle of extreme explorers and walked in the footsteps of his role models: Sheck Exley and Jim Bowden. Dive after dive, he ventures deeper and deeper. From then on, Pascal had only one idea in mind: to beat the underwater diving record, held by John Bennet (-305 meters). An unprecedented challenge that would put his body and mind to the test, while pushing back the boundaries of science.
Blending spectacular underwater footage with insights from Pascal and his team as well as scientists, this film propels us to the heart of an abyssal epic. Beyond the tale of a singular feat, Deeper sheds light on the history of ultra-deep diving, paying tribute to the great explorers of the abyss.
