FOR SEAVEN’S SAKE

Never before have fishing and aquaculture played such an important role in the diets and incomes of so many people. But one shock announcement follows another, promising a bleak future for this world on borrowed time: no more fish by 2050, which means no more fishermen, no more jobs, and a food crisis in many countries.

Are humans moving inexorably towards resource exhaustion? Or are we capable of mutating to save ourselves? Are the cutting-edge technologies that are developing in the sector helping to protect it, or will they once again accelerate the catastrophe?

Between the historical perspective, the reality of today's artisanal and industrial fisheries, and ecological and animal concerns, the aim is to decipher the workings of a global system that has never been so efficient as to be on the brink of collapse. Through contact with fishermen, researchers and industrialists, from Europe to Africa, this film offers a global perspective on fishing, and questions our ability to fish in a truly “sustainable” way.
