THE LEGEND OF THE DEVIL FISH

Every summer, around a hundred giant devil rays (otherwise known as “devil fish”) gather to reproduce in the Mediterranean Sea, giving rise to a rarely-seen mating ritual. This incredible 400-million-year species has survived five mass extinctions. But today, human activity is threatening its survival.

Today, a team of marine biologists are organizing a scientific expedition to learn more about this mysterious creature, and to ensure its preservation. They hope to show proof of their exceptional courtship. Along the way, they meet sperm whales, rorquals, dolphins by the hundreds… But they only come across a few isolated giant devil rays. Doubt begins to creep in: what if the existence of this school of devil fish was a mere legend?

Through snorkeling sequences and encounters with Mediterranean underwater creatures, this documentary offers a deep dive into an exciting adventure that promises to lift the veil on a mysterious sea giant.
