Mid-19th century. While gold seekers scoured the Far West, others set their sight on a different kind of treasure: dinosaur fossils. At the head of this rush were two giants of paleontology: Othniel Marsh and Edward Drinker Cope. Initially friends, the two men soon became involved in a veritable “Bone Wars”.
For over 20 years, the two researchers inveighed, attacked and slandered each other. Meanwhile, their teams were engaged in a frantic race to see who could unearth the greatest number of fossils. Excavating in the midst of the Indian wars, they uncovered nearly 130 species and revolutionized excavation techniques in the process.
Packed with historical reconstructions, archive documents and experts’ viewpoints, this documentary plunges us into the heart of a farcical scientific adventure with western overtones.
