Mondher Najjar has been the Imam of the Grand Mosque of Lyon since 2002. He had to leave his native Tunisia to take up this role in a country where he had to make his home.
Mondher's life is shaped by a total spiritual commitment and a practice that seeks a balance between rigorism and modernity, in a general climate of mistrust of Islam in European society. Mondher is at once the spiritual guide of a community of over 8,000 followers, a trainer of converts, a director of conscience, a marriage counselor, a social worker, a mediator and a psychologist. Every day, he holds sessions where men and women come to find the answers Islam provides to their everyday problems.
Through images of his daily life, the film paints a portrait of a man who, faced with the very small number of imams, has to take on too many responsibilities.
