Built in the middle of the Industrial Revolution, the Charleroi-Brussels canal allowed barges to transport coal from one city to the other. Over the years, it has been modified and modernized many times to let faster and larger boats to pass through…
However, the authorities were wise enough to preserve the abandoned sections of the canal, which now harbor a dense flora and fauna. The old disused locks have become an ideal observatory. The walker with a keen eye can contemplate at leisure the rich biodiversity that flourishes along the banks of this river.
This film invites us to walk along this old Walloon canal and allows us to discover the various species - birds, amphibians, rodents or insects – that live here throughout the seasons.
