LENNON'S ISLAND: PEACE, LOVE AND WAR IN THE ATLANTIC

In 1967, at the very height of Beatlemania, John Lennon decided to buy a small, wild and isolated island on the west coast of Ireland. A few years later, he entrusted it to his friend and pacifist activist Sid Rawle to found a community. Libertarian hippies versus hostile wilderness and rigid Catholics, the unusual story of Dorinish Island tells of a clash of cultures.

Using never-before-seen archive footage, a Beatlemania soundtrack, interviews with former members of "The Tribe of The Sun" and former residents of the town of Westport, the film plunges back into the 70s, exploring the magnificent island between past and present.

In a letter to his posthumous namesake John Lennon, Dublin director Gary Lennon reconnects with his native Ireland, recounting the improbable utopia of Dorinish Island. Lennon's island analyzes the story of a failure, exploring the impact of music on society, and the more universal hope of living together.
