In 2005, the discovery of a vast archeological site in Quebec revolutionized the established knowledge about the history of France's presence.
It turned out that French navigator Jacques Cartier was the one who founded the first colony in the 16th century.
But who really was this multi-faceted man, who inspired so many imaginary and folkloric representations?
The film shows that the French explorer was not only an experienced navigator and the "discoverer of Canada", he was also a complex man, driven by a thirst for adventure and recognition which never ceased to guide his destiny from the city of Saint Malo, his home port.
