FROZEN NOMAD

With its thousand billion tons of ice and its surface area of almost 4,000 km2, the A23a is one of the largest icebergs ever observed. Born in 1986, after breaking off from the Filchner-Ronne ice shelf in Antarctica, it has remained motionless for over 30 years. Now adrift, the ice giant is leaving a trail of environmental changes in its wake. And, within the next few weeks, it could well collide with South Georgia Island...

In Antarctica, international research teams are working to anticipate the megaberg’s trajectory and measure its many environmental impacts. Using cutting-edge technologies (satellite imagery, underwater gliders, modeling...), they will reveal the complex dynamics at play between glacial mechanics, climate change, ocean currents and marine ecosystems.

We plunge into the heart of a daring scientific expedition, alongside lead experts - Matilda Ballinger, Tennessee Blackmore, Gary Miller, Claudio Ghiglione, Chloé Maréchal, etc. - to unlock the secrets of A23a and confront the realities of our changing world.
