DEPP VS. HEARD: THE SOCIAL MEDIA TRIAL

In the spring of 2022, the Depp vs. Heard case was broadcasted live on American television channels and social networks. Behind the screens, everyone becomes judge or advocate. Online, while the #JusticeForJohnnyDepp was spreading, the actor’s ex-wife became victim of a massive hate campaign.

From memes to TikTok trends, passing by sexist tweets and even death threats… the hateful contents targeting the Hollywood actress reflect the rise of a masculinist fiercely opposed to the #MeToo movement. Could it be that algorithms favor the diffusion of such misogynistic content? What are the effects of cyberbullying and media frenzy on justice and its impartiality?

Through the use of archives and experts’ interventions, this documentary propels us into the Internet vortex while questioning the circumstances of this high-profile case.
