In the 19th century, as seaside bathing became a trend throughout Europe, beach huts flourished along the coasts of northern France. Elegant or popular, these wooden sheds have become part of French cultural heritage. If some see them as simple storage spaces, others have turned them into second homes, handed down from generation to generation. Their owners do their utmost to keep them standing – sometimes at the coast of a bitter struggle.
