Warships, 400 years of history

With its 80 warships, France has one of the most powerful naval forces in the world. Its ships are presently engaged in all military operation zones. These surface combat ships which double up as firing platforms are brimming with all the latest technology.

How, in just a few centuries, have we gone from hand-to-hand fighting to over the horizon war? From hand-thrown weapons to the atom bomb? From muskets to ballistic missiles?

Using archive images, expert accounts, and 3D modelling, this film takes us on a journey back in time through 400 years of history – from the galleys of the 17th century to the battleships of WWII - to explore the technologies that today's ships have inherited.
