VOYAGE OF THE CONTINENTS

Since its formation 4.55 billion years ago, Earth has been continuously subjected to incredibly powerful forces. With the Earth’s crust in perpetual evolution, the map of our world is tirelessly redrawing itself. Just like any living being, lands and oceans are born, grow and succumb. Continents join and part, driven by collisions and subductions – movements we perceive through earthquakes, volcanic eruptions or tsunamis.

To follow the story of continental drift, we travel over the globe to meet committed scientists carrying out advanced research at the most representative sites for each major geological event. With them and through their work, we discover how the subtilities of the tectonic process can be read in the relief of the land. But this voyage is also an opportunity to set the development of life against the geological time scale, from the first appearance of living organisms, aquatic and terrestrial plants, mammals, and – finally – human beings.

A fascinating geological epic that takes us back over a billion years ago, to piece together the jigsaw puzzle of three of the largest continents – Africa, North America and South America – and decipher the evolution of their magnificent landscapes, tirelessly re-sculpted.
