In the 5th century, barbarian invasions marked the fall of the Western Roman Empire. But while Europe sank into the Middle Ages, Roman civilization continued to flourish in the far reaches of Anatolia.
Nearly 40 years ago, archaeologists unearthed an incredibly well-preserved site, buried for centuries in the Taurus mountains: the city of Sagalassos, the last bastion of the Roman Empire in the East. Since the excavations began, discoveries and interrogations have followed one another. Who were these “last Romans”? How did they live? And why did they ended up abandoning such a prosperous town?
With exclusive access to the site, blending researchers’ insights and 3D reconstructions, this documentary brings back to life the exceptional history of this ancient city.
