EGYPT'S ATLANTIS: TREASURES OF A SUNKEN CITY

3,000 years ago, at the mouth of the Nile, stood a sumptous city, symbol of the power and glory of ancient Egypt: Thonis-Heracleion. Swallowed up by water in the 2nd century BC, the city became a distant legend… until an exceptional discovery was made in the early 2000s.

Until then, only a few ancient texts had testified to its existence, described as a bustling political, commercial and religious center at the crossroads of Greek and Egyptian cultures. The city is thought to have been home to one of the largest ports in ancient Egypt, as well as the Temple of Amun, where pharaohs were enthroned. After several centuries of existence, Thonis-Heracleion was struck by a series of natural disasters and sank into the depths of the Mediterranean. We could have believed it lost forever.

But in 2001, explorer Franck Goddio and his team discovered remains, including a huge stele, in the Abu Qir Bay. Since then, they have been exhuming treasures year after year - each more fascinating than the last. Today, we are embarking on one of the last expeditions of this prodigious mission.

By following the current excavations exclusively, thanks to the recent digitization of underwater archives and 3D reconstructions, this archaeological and scientific epic will retrace the destiny of this Egyptian Atlantis and unravel its enduring mysteries.
