A WINDOW ON THE BODY

Fingerprint mapping, face recognition, iris scan… Our bodies are subjected to increasingly sophisticated biometric technologies, used to identify, authenticate and protect us. Whether it’s unlocking our smartphone, traveling abroad or preventing fraud, biometrics promises to make our lives easier and safer. But how far can we go in exploiting personal data?

What is this information that our body gives away, without even knowing it? What technologies allow us “capture” and analyze it? Is it truly reliable? And isn’t there a risk of turning our identities into pure commodities?

Giving the floor to both users and experts (computer scientists, sociologists, anthropologists and criminologists), this investigation probes the various biometric identification systems we use today to distinguish false beliefs from real pitfalls.
