A 17th-century treasure, the Château of Vaux-le-Vicomte is one of the biggest private properties in France, classified as an historical monument. With 33 hectares of gardens designed by Le Nôtre and a chateau with its unique dome-shaped roof built by Le Vau for Nicolas Fouquet, Superintendent of Finances for Louis XIV, this spectacular construction served as a model for the palace of Versailles. It symbolizes the highpoint of an era when architecture was considered the foremost of the arts.
However, Vaux-le-Vicomte took just 13 months to construct. Featuring interviews with experts, historical reconstructions, engravings, and CGI, this film will take us on an exploration of this huge construction project and the architectural prowess of builders who would go on to work on another masterpiece, namely the Château of Versailles.
